Carol Bier-Laning, MD
Assistant Professor

Dr. Bier-Laning was born and raised in Southern Wisconsin. She attended the University of Wisconsin in Madision, WI, earning a BS in Medical Technology. Dr. Bier-Laning attended the University of Colorado Medical School, and completed her Otolaryngology Residency at the University of Minnesota.

Dr. Bier-Laning went on to complete two years of fellowship training at The Ohio State University which included a one year clinical fellowship in Head and Neck Oncology under the mentorship of Dr. David Schuller and a second year as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the laboratory of Dr. Jessie L-S Au.

Carol M. Bier-Laning, M.D. serves as the section chief of the Otolaryngology Section at Hines VA Medical Center where she also sits on the Cancer Committee. She is active in departmental affairs relating to resident and faculty research including coordinating the annual Girgis resident research competition in January of each year.

Dr. Bier-Laning divides her time between her clinical work at Hines VA Medical Center where she sees patients and her research work in the laboratory of her mentor Dr. Manuel Diaz located in the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center at Loyola. She was recently awarded funding from the Loyola Research Funding Committee for her work entitled: Apoptosis signaling causes genomic instability leading to loss of heterozygosity (LOH) in a tumor, near-diploid cell line.
