- Foot and Ankle Care
Loyola performs complex hind foot reconstruction following trauma and degenerative disease, and limb salvage following surgical complication or diabetes. Loyola is one of only a handful of centers that perform ankle replacement. - General Non-Operative Orthopaedics

The department is skilled at treating non-healing fractures and fractures of the pelvic bones and hip socket. - Hand Surgery
Loyola is nationally recognized for expertise in hand surgery and specialized hand rehabilitation. The department receives referrals worldwide for children with congenital hand abnormalities and adults and children with paralysis after spinal cord injury. - Joint Replacement
Loyola offers minimal-incision surgery on the hip and knee. Surgeons are experienced in total joint replacement and revision of prior joint replacement. - Musculoskeletal Oncology
Loyola has expertise in treating cancerous tumors that originate in bone, cartilage or muscles. - Orthopaedic Trauma
Loyola is an Illinois Level I trauma center. Serving as part of the Loyola trauma team are orthopaedic specialists with extensive experience in caring for injuries, ranging from the patient with a simple sprain to the patient with multiple fractures. - Pediatric Orthopaedics
The department’s pediatric orthopaedic specialists have expertise in clubfoot, congenital hip disorders, cerebral palsy and trauma. - Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Physiatrists focus on restoring function. They care for patients with acute and chronic pain, and musculoskeletal problems like back and neck pain, tendonitis, pinched nerves and fibromyalgia. They also treat people who have experienced catastrophic events resulting in paraplegia, quadriplegia, or traumatic brain injury; and individuals who have had strokes, orthopedic injuries, or neurologic disorders such as multiple sclerosis, polio, or ALS. - Podiatry
The podiatry section is active in patient care, research, education and providing diagnosis and treatment of foot disorders at numerous locations in the health system. - Reconstructive Surgery & Joint Replacement
The section of joint replacement and reconstructive surgery, is considered a regional leader with experts in total joint reconstruction including including hip, knee and joints of the upper extremities. - Spine Surgery
Loyola is nationally recognized for expertise in complex spinal problems including spinal stenosis, herniated discs, nerve and spinal cord compression, spine trauma, and spinal cord injury. - Sports Medicine
With its state-of-the-art program, the section is attracting a new patient population as well as enhancing the department’s residency training by providing advanced diagnostic and therapeutic arthroscopic techniques, including major joint reconstructions. - Research
- Biomechanical Research Laboratory
Orthopaedic surgeons and research engineers collaborate to develop new implant designs and procedures. It is the world’s only laboratory in which scientists can simulate G-force loads and measure their effect on the human spine. - Molecular And Cellular Bone Biology Laboratory
The primary focus of the laboratory is to examine the effects of excessive alcohol consumption on molecular, cellular and biomechanical parameters of bone. - Musculoskeletal Biology Research Laboratory
Scientists in this laboratory study the musculoskeletal system on a cellular and molecular level to define how bone cells function during skeletal growth, development and repair. Recent research focuses on the link between alcoholism and osteoporosis, a severe condition of bone loss.
