Robert J. Barnes, M.D. Award

Dr. Robert J. Barnes has been a staff member of the Loyola Ophthalmology Department since 1983. Dr. Barnes wanted to reward residents for their fine contributions in research while they were in their residency, and also motivate them to pursue further education in ophthalmology, so he established a scholarship fund, the Robert J. Barnes Award. This award is presented to a Loyola Ophthalmology Resident at the end of each academic year.

Beem-Fisher Award

Each year The Chicago Ophthalmological Society (COS) solicits papers from area residents.  The resident who submits the paper deemed to be best in terms of research techniques, writing quality, and clinical or scientific relevance is awarded the Beem-Fisher Award.  Papers are submitted to a review committee composed of a representative from each of the Chicago programs and two members of the COS who are not associated with any of the resident programs.  COS awards three prizes per year.
