Arthur Light, MD, Memorial Lectureship in Ophthalmology
[GUEST SPEAKERS AND PRESENTATIONS]

The late Arthur Light, MD, was born in Brooklyn, New York and graduated from Chicago Medical School in 1943.  He served two years in the Public Health Service as a medical officer and again during the Korean War.  He took his residency training at the Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary in Chicago and became an expert in glaucoma.

With Dr. Thomas Stamm and Dr. James McDonald he co-founded FOCUS, Inc., where he donated his eye skills in Haiti and Nigeria.  He was an active member of the Board of Directors of FOCUS as well as the Treasurer.

He is known to the Loyola Ophthalmology Department for his dedication to teaching and compassionate care of his patients.  Faculty and residents alike have benefited from his expertise in the field of glaucoma.  Dr. Light retired from professional activity in June, 1989.  The lectureship was established to continue Dr. Light's mission to teach.

Each year, the Department of Ophthalmology at Loyola University Medical Center presents a program at which a prominent glaucoma expert will speak.

The Arthur Light, MD, Memorial Lectureship in Ophthalmology was established by the generous contributions of the Light family.
