Loyola University Health System’s (Loyola) Level III Perinatal Center serves as a regional referral site for suburban community hospitals. Critically ill newborns receive care in a 50-bed neonatal intensive care unit, which features the latest in medical technology. The supportive, friendly environment allows families to visit at any time of the day or night (with the exception of 9:30 a.m. to noon). Conditions treated include prematurity, birth defects, breathing disorders, infection, bronchopulmonary dysplasia and other complications of premature birth. The staff includes board-certified neonatologists (physicians specializing in disorders in newborns), neonatal nurse practitioners, neonatal nurses and neonatal respiratory therapists, all committed to helping each baby thrive. In addition to state-of-the-art intensive care, prenatal consultations and a developmental follow-up clinic are offered.

Specialty Services

  • Integrated Neonatal Home Care Program
This unique program allows some premature babies to be discharged early with the support of parental training and home visits by neonatal nurses.
  • Transport to Loyola
Babies not born at Loyola are transferred by LifeStarhelicopter or by ambulance. If you are a physician who needs a consultation or needs to arrange transport to the pediatric neonatal unit, call (708) 216-6969.

The Loyola Neonatal Intensive Care Unit has one of the state’s highest survival rates for low-birth-weight infants.
