Michael McCarthy Staff Biography

Michael McCarthy
Chaplain

I am a born and raised Texan, though I have not been there since leaving high school. I graduated from Saint Louis University, where I met Ginny. After SLU we went to Mexico where we did volunteer work in southern Veracruz. We then headed off to Boston, just in time to see the Red Sox break “the curse”.

While in Boston, working on my master’s degree, I coordinated the adult, middle, and high school faith formation programs at Corpus Christi Church in Auburndale, MA. After graduating with a Master of Theological Studies degree from the Weston Jesuit School of Theology-now a part of Boston College-I taught high school religion at BC High. Then, Ginny and I set off to Madrid. There I taught theology, coordinated liturgies and retreats for campus ministry, and directed the ESL program at Saint Louis University - Madrid. All of those learning experiences contributed to my desire and preparation for coming to Loyola.

Here at Stritch I work with retreats, liturgies, faith formation…sound familiar. I enjoy talking sports, politics, and theology anytime I get the opportunity, probably all very dangerous (in a Metz-ian kind of way) topics. Feel free to stop by, say hello, and/or procrastinate as the situation calls for it.
