Endocrinology & Metabolism

The division conducts both bench and clinical research and works closely with other divisions and departments at Loyola to achieve its research goals. Currently, the division’s research concentrates on:

  • Role of blood glucose control in preventing cardiovascular and cerebral vascular disease in people with diabetes
  • Impact of alcohol on reproduction
  • Prevention of bone loss after lung transplantation
  • Role of testosterone on bone disorders and brain and lipid metabolism
  • Improved treatments for Paget’s disease
  • Blucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis and postmenopausal osteoporosis

Over the past five years, the division has been awarded grant funding that totaled a little more than $800,000, and the faculty have discussed their research in close to 55 abstracts and 100 articles that were published in various medical journals.
