Diabetes Care Center:
The Loyola University Diabetes Care Center is a specialized clinic, recognized by the American Diabetes Association (ADA), which provides comprehensive group and individualized treatment programs for adults with diabetes. The center holds regular CME conferences and updates. Our physicians and nurses play a major role in managing diabetes in our hospitalized patients and we have developed comprehensive protocols to decrease the incidence of hyperglycemia and its related morbidities.

Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease Center:
The Osteoporosis and Metabolic Bone Disease Center provides a multidisciplinary approach to evaluating and treating diseases including:

  • Osteoporosis
  • Paget’s disease
  • Osteomalacia
  • Hyperparathyroidism
  • Vitamin D deficiency
  • Calcium and other mineral-related disorders

The center offers continuing medical education (CME) programs, screenings and lectures, and is also actively participating in several ongoing clinical trials to evaluate new medications to treat bone disease.

Education
In keeping with the tripartite mission of the university, Endocrinology participates in all facets of medical education, from training medical students to having faculty members develop CME programs. Several faculties in our division are advisors to medical students. In 2001, the ACGME approved three fellows for the division. Fellows rotate through Loyola and Hines VA and are actively involved in research. Both fellows and faculty work closely with residents and medical students.

Faculty members strive to stay abreast of the latest developments and advances in their fields by attending relevant conferences, meeting with colleagues and reviewing current literature. They recognize the need to use their expertise to provide CME programs for colleagues and primary care physicians.
