Continuity ClinicOpened in 2003, the Loyola Outpatient Center is home to the combined Med-Peds continuity clinic. The Med-Peds Primary Care area is on the first floor next to the Pediatric Clinic.
As a Med-Peds resident, your continuity clinic occurs one half-day per week on campus at the Loyola Outpatient Center. All residents are assigned to co-Med-Peds attendings by whom they will be supervised for their four years of training. There are three to four residents assigned to each attending. Adults and children are seen in the same clinic session. Clinics for Med-Peds patients are available five days a week to promote a cohesive feel to their clinical experience.
Med-Peds residents can elect to participate in an additional continuity experience in the Access to Care Clinic during their Medicine ambulatory weeks. Access to Care is a Loyola-sponsored free clinic that provides uninsured patients both primary care and access to Loyola specialists.
In addition to patient care, Med-Peds residents complete an ambulatory curriculum each year. These curricula are designed by the Department of Medicine and the Department of Pediatrics. They include topics such as: "Well Child Care", "Polypharmacy in the Elderly", and "Dysmenorrhea". The didactic component of the ambulatory curriculum is one element of our monthly Med-Peds resident meetings.
