Cook
County Hospital has a rich tradition of service dating back to 1831.
It was the largest public hospital and has a worldwide reputation
for not only training an incredible number of physicians, residents,
and students but establishing the world's first blood bank, describing
the pathology of sickle cell anemia not to mention advances in acute
trauma and burn management.
The
new modern state of art facility, John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of
Cook County, houses 464 beds with dedicated units for pediatrics,
obstetrics, intensive care, neonatal intensive care and burns. It
is designed first and foremost to meet the needs of the patients.
The new hospital combines the most up-to-date technology, efficient
design and contemporary setting. More than 40% of the hospital's space
is dedicated to an outpatient Specialty Care Center. The Specialty
Care Center can provide more than 220,000 patient visits
annually.
