Englewood Health Center is located on Chicago’s south side in the Englewood community. This community is approximately seven miles south of downtown. It is a predominantly African-American neighborhood that flourished in the past when factory jobs were plentiful and many African-Americans migrated up from the South (you can get some amazing histories from the elderly in the community).
Currently, health and social problems are prevalent. Unemployment for young adults approaches 50% and the infant mortality rate is 26 per 1000 live births (double the national average). However, there are numerous local projects to improve the conditions of the neighborhood. A modern safe housing complex for seniors was completed under the leadership of a local minister. Community block beautification projects have provided residents with funds and impetus to restore many of the common areas along the wide boulevards. The Englewood Health Center has established linkages with several community organizations to assist in improving conditions in the Englewood area. The center focuses on providing high quality health care services to the medically underserved.

Residents have been very active in the community working with local schools, developing a teen clinic, and working with Americorp volunteers on the lead projects.
The clinic services approximately 15,000 patients’ visits per year. It also offers comprehensive services such as:

                   Adult Medicine
