Message from the Deans

Welcome to the Loyola University Chicago, Medical Center Campus. You are about to embark on a new journey that will take you down some very interesting paths in the years to come. During this journey you will be challenged, impassioned, questioned and confused. You will experience doubts, frustration, exhilaration, accomplishment and success. You are on your way to your chosen profession, be it as a physician, nurse, researcher, teacher or scientist. We hope this path will prove to be a unique, fulfilling and memorable experience.

To assist you in your assimilation to Loyola, the office of Campus Life has developed this handbook. In it you will find the answers to most of the non academic questions new students bring to campus (your academic dean's office can answer those curricular questions you will have). This handbook has been designed to help ease some uncertainty by providing students with current information on campus support, policies, and student responsibilities. Having the knowledge of what resources are available will assist you in efficiently pursuing your goals of academic excellence and continued personal growth and development. Please refer to this booklet often, as it will save you precious time in the future. An online version of this handbook may be accessed by all students at the Stritch School of Medicine home page located at:

http://www.meddean.luc.edu

Please click on the Student Resources section, and then on the Student Handbook link.

The office of Campus Life has responsibility for the student life and services programs on this campus. We have supervisory responsibility for the student organizations, student governments, the Student Activity Fee, volunteer programs, university policies, and recreational and social activities. We are also the liaison to the Student Health Service, the Student Personal Counseling Service, the Center for Health & Fitness, and to the University sponsored Student Hospitalization Insurance plan. You will find sections on all of these programs herein.

Should you require further assistance, please call Campus Life at 708-216-3650 or your respective academic dean's office for additional guidance with your questions and concerns.

Congratulations on your acceptance to Loyola University Chicago. We are looking forward to meeting all of you.

Michael Lambesis
Director of Campus Life
