HOUSING
REFERENCE SERVICE
The
Housing Reference Service is a listing of housing units
known as the Apartment Gazette. These listings
consist of apartment rentals (studio, one, two and three
bedrooms, etc.), rooms to rent, and houses to rent (or
share) in nearby communities. Property owners make these
units available to Loyola students, faculty and staff.
The
Apartment Gazette is published in two forms.
The printed version is available in the Office of Campus
Life (708-216-3651) located in the SSOM. It is updated
and reprinted every Monday throughout the year with
a greater number of listings available during the months
of June through August. The other version is on-line
and is updated every day. The on-line version can be
reached by going to: www.meddean.luc.edu
and clicking on the Student Resources section,
and then on the Apartment Gazette. You will be
able to choose selected listings by indicating preferred
housing requirements (such as by community, price range,
or number of bedrooms). You may also select the "All
Listings" button for a complete list of every unit
being offered.
Loyola
University Chicago does not own or operate any of the
listing in the Apartment Gazette. Loyola has
not inspected the listed properties and assumes no responsibility
for their condition, or for the landlord/tenant relationship.
OMBUDSPERSON
The
Ombudsperson facilitates understanding, communication,
and conflict resolution among the various constituents
of the Loyola University Health System. This includes
assisting students, faculty, or staff members in the
resolutions of problems which have not been or are not
being addressed through usual channels. Although the
Ombudsperson does not make decisions on the merits of
any matter presented, he may make recommendations to
any department and is responsible directly to the President
and CEO of the Loyola University Health System, the
Loyola University Medical Center, and Senior Vice President
of the Health Sciences. All consultations are confidential
except as the client may wish otherwise. Meetings can
be scheduled at any time of the week.
For
more information on this service, call the Ombudsperson
Office at 708-216-5228.
PARKING
INFORMATION
At
the beginning of each academic year students are given
the opportunity to purchase a key card which allows
access to designated parking lots.
Students
are currently assigned to Lot 11 on the south end of
campus. The parking fee is $250 per year (subject to
change). Due to the great parking demand on campus,
the key card entitles students to access the lot but
does not guarantee a parking space. Therefore, the
later in the day one parks, the more difficult it is
to find a space.
For
convenient evening and weekend use of the Medical School,
medical students who have purchase a key card to Lot
11 are also allowed access to Lot 8, at no additional
charge, after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends
and Medical Center recognized holidays. Third and fourth
year medical students who have purchased a Lot 11 key
card can also access Lot 2, at no additional charge,
after 5:00 p.m. on weekdays and all day on weekends
and Medical Center recognized holidays. The "student"
reader to Lots 2 and 8 do not allow access between 3:00
a.m. and 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Student vehicles
must be out of Lots 2 and 8 by 3:00 a.m. on weekdays.
Key
cards may be purchased from the Parking Office, located
on the first floor of the Administration Building (phone
708-216-9092, hours 8:00 a.m. to 4:45 p.m.). You must
present a valid Loyola I.D., and the make, year, color,
and license plate number of the vehicle. The fee must
be paid for by cash, check or credit card.
All
medical students, regardless of their year, leaving
for summer break or for off-campus clinical rotations,
may receive a prorated refund ONLY if their key
card is surrendered PRIOR to leaving. The key
card can be reacquired when they return. Refund requests
cannot be honored when the student returns to campus.
Due
to the parking needs of Medical Center patients and
visitors, students and staff are expected to follow
all parking rules and regulations and are prohibited
from parking in the patient and visitor lots.
SECURITY
AND SAFETY SERVICES
Security
and Safety (708-216-9077) is available to assist students
with concerns 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. One way
that Security assists the students is through the vehicle
escort service. Students may request an escort to their
vehicle on weekdays after 6:00 p.m. and anytime on weekends,
by calling ext. 69077. This escort must be to a vehicle
located on Loyola property, and does not extend to the
Cook County Forest Preserve. The escort could be a "reverse
escort" as well, in that a student may request
a Security escort from your car to the hospital or school,
if you are arriving here early in the morning, before
the shuttle begins service. To request the reverse escort,
press the call button on the emergency phone when pulling
into the lot, and ask the dispatcher for an escort.
Free
shuttle service is available around campus from 6:00
a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday (holidays excluded).
The response time for escort calls could vary depending
upon the availability of the officer involved due to
other commitments such as traffic control, patient assistance,
cashier escorts, and shift change.
Students
who find that they have a flat tire, dead battery, or
have locked their keys in the vehicle can obtain assistance
from the Department of Environmental Services 24 hours
a day. Assistance can be obtained by calling the Security
dispatcher at 69077 or by using one of the emergency
phones located at parking lot entrance gate.
TO
CALL FOR EMERGENCY ASSISTANCE FROM A STANDARD HOUSE
PHONE DIAL 911. Injured
or ill students in need of transportation to the emergency
department may request transport by calling 69077.
Emergency
telephones are located in each elevator, the building
corridors, in parking lots and along the streets. Emergency
phones are identified by a red box with the word "EMERGENCY"
and the telephone symbol located on the box. To use
the phone, simply open the box and/or just press the
button -- the Security and Safety Dispatcher will respond.
The button you press will automatically provide the
dispatcher with your location.
Photo
Identification is to be worn in a visible manner at
all times while on campus. Photo i.d.'s are required
to gain access through Medical Center entrances and
use of the library. Photo i.d.'s may be obtained in
the Parking Office, first floor, Building 201 between
the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:45 p.m., Monday through
Friday.
To
help prevent theft and assist in the recovery and return
of stolen property to the owner, the office of Security
and Safety will provide engraving tools to mark personal
property (such as a microscope). Security and Safety
asks that students not leave personal property unattended.
Students
with questions or concerns related to laboratory safety,
the handling of chemicals and other hazardous substances
may obtain assistance by calling the Safety Section
of Environmental Services at ext. 69079 between 8:00
a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
