Vision
The vision of PAC is to build a
sustainable partnership of community stakeholders who are dedicated to
systemic solutions that help youth achieve success.
What is
positive Youth development?
Positive youth
development represents five characteristics, the five C’s, competence,
confidence, character, connection, and caring (Eccles & Gootman, 2002).
Positive youth development approaches promote one or more of the following:
bonding, resilience, social competence, emotional competence, moral
competence, self-determination, spirituality, self-efficacy, clear and
positive identity, belief in the future, recognition for positive behavior,
opportunities for pro-social involvement and pro-social norms (Catalano,
Bergulund, Ryan, Lonczak & Hawkins, 1998)
How PAC got started?
Proviso Township
Ministerial Alliance established PAC under the visionary leadership of Rev.
Dr. Reginald J. Saffo Bishop Dr. Claude Porter and Dr. Lena Hatchett in response to the crisis of
youth violence in Proviso. The goal of PAC is to create an interagency
partnership that brings together community systems such as police, schools,
libraries, social service agencies, voluntary associations, churches and
political officials for a strategic, multi-level solutions to promote
positive youth development for our youth and community residents.
To accomplish this goal
effectively and efficiently, PAC utilizes a subcommittee structure to foster
effective communication and collaboration among diverse organizations and
community systems. Currently there are four (4)
active subcommittees.
1. Eccles & Gootman, 2002
2. Catalano, Bergulund, Ryan, Lonczak & Hawkins (1998) |
