Catholic Concentration in Bioethics & Health Policy Programs


The Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy now offers a concentration in Catholic healthcare ethics. These concentrations can be earned within the Doctoral Degree (D.Bioethics) Program, Masters Degree (M.A.) Program, Certificate ProgramCourses in the concentration provide students with a foundation in the Catholic moral tradition and Canon law, examine the tradition's application of these commitments in the clinical setting, and survey major religious traditions as they inform diverse, religious perspectives in bioethics. 

 

Requirements for completing the Catholic concentration in the Doctoral Degree, Masters Degree and Certificate programs are outlined below. 

 

Doctoral Degree in Bioethics and Health Policy with a Catholic Concentration

The Doctoral Degree in Bioethics and Health Policy with a Catholic Concentration requires a total of fifty-seven (57) credits, twelve (12) credits of which must be fulfilled by the following:

           

  • Completion of twelve (12) credits selected from the following options:

    • Religion and Bioethics - BEHP409 (3 credits)

    • Moral Theology for Bioethics - BEHP414 (3 credits)

    • Catholic Bioethics in Clinical Practice - BEHP415 (3 credits)

    • Catholic Bioethics and Social Justice - BEHP416 (3 credits)

 

  • In addition, students must compete a practicum and capstone project focused on issues related to Catholic bioethics.

 

Masters Degree in Bioethics and Health Policy with a Catholic Concentration

The Masters Degree in Bioethics and Health Policy with a Catholic Concentration requires a total of thirty (30) credits, nine (9) credits of which must be fulfilled by the following:

           

  • Completion of nine (9) credits selected from the following options:

    • Religion and Bioethics - BEHP409 (3 credits)

    • Moral Theology for Bioethics - BEHP414 (3 credits)

    • Catholic Bioethics in Clinical Practice - BEHP415 (3 credits)

    • Catholic Bioethics and Social Justice - BEHP416 (3 credits)

 

Certificate in Bioethics and Health Policy with a Catholic Concentration

The Certificate in Bioethics and Health Policy with a Catholic Concentration requires a total of twelve (12) credits.            

  • Completion of three (3) credits in: Clinical Topics in Bioethics - BEHP401(3 credits)

  • Completion of nine (9) credits selected from the following options:

    • Religion and Bioethics - BEHP409 (3 credits)

    • Moral Theology for Bioethics - BEHP414 (3 credits)

    • Catholic Bioethics in Clinical Practice - BEHP415 (3 credits)

    • Catholic Bioethics and Social Justice - BEHP416 (3 credits)
