MEDICAL
ETHICS
Recently, headlines have been made by doctors and pharmacists who refuse to
prescribe or fill prescriptions for birth control pills or the recently-approved Plan B
pill. What should doctors and medical professionals do when their personal beliefs
conflict with a patient's request? We will be exploring the world of medical ethics
tonight with three doctors who have all researched and written about this timely subject:
Dr. Farr Curlin,
assistant professor of medicine and a member of the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical
Ethics at the University of Chicago, Dr. John Lantos, professor of pediatrics and medicine
and associate director of the MacLean Center, and John Hardt, PhD, professor of
bioethics at the Neiswanger Institute for Bioethics & Health Policy at the Loyola
University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine.
