Care Ethics
A Catholic Theological Analysis,
Fifth Edition
Benedict M. Ashley, O.P., Jean deBlois, C.S.J,
Kevin D. O'Rourke, O.P.
ISBN:
9781589011168
Georgetown University Press,
Washington, DC.
"What was already a stellar
theological compendium of health care ethics a decade ago has been fully
revised to meet the challenges of a new century... Clearly rooted in the
Catholic, natural law and personalist traditions, it astutely weighs
diverse opinions within Catholicism, as well as alternative approaches
from other Christian and non-religious thinkers... A treasure." —John
F. Kavanaugh S.J., Director of Ethics Across the Curriculum, Saint
Louis University

An Ethics Casebook for Hospitals
Practical Approaches to Everyday Cases
Mark G. Kuczewski, PhD, Rosa Lynn B. Pinkus
ISBN:
9780878407231
Georgetown University Press,
Washington, DC.
The strength
of these cases is their occasional complexity and reflection of the reality
of day-to-day practice.… I highly recommend this book as an aid in the
case-based teaching of medical ethics. Ethics committee members, medical
students, and house staff of academic institutions should also find these
cases useful in their continuing education." — Bioethics Forum
"This book represents a major step forward in the teaching of ethics and
as such has the potential to become an indispensable tool for teachers and
clinicians alike.… A unique feature of this book is that the cases exemplify
a sample of ethical dilemmas that were submitted by representatives of
hospitals.… Kuczewski and Pinkus have produced an indispensable addition to
the bioethics literature.… a volume that is both undaunting and user
friendly. As such it represents a valuable resource and tool for educating
front line clinicians, ethics committees and administrators about
bioethics." — Nursing Ethics

"An original
and subtle moral theory. . . . an interesting and valuable synthesis of two
important approaches to bioethics. . . It will be of interest to anyone
interested in the foundations of bioethics." —James H. Spence, Cambridge

Practicing Bioethics
Editor(s): Mark G. Kuczewski, PhD
The Practicing Bioethics series provides readers with insight into
the professional practices by which bioethicists, physicians, nurses, and
other health-care professionals address current ethical issues. These works
cut through the usual back-and-forth of abstract arguments to examine how to
resolve dilemmas in the clinic, at the bedside, and in the boardroom. The
volumes address the teaching of professionalism to health-care
professionals, clinical bioethics consultation, death and dying, and
clinical genetics, to name a few. This series is ideal for use with
undergraduate and graduate students of bioethics, as well as
clinicians-in-training.
Healing as Vocation: A Medical
Professionalism Primer
Edited by Kayhan Parsi, JD, PhD and Myles N. Sheehan, SJ, MD
This collection of essays provides educators in medicine and the health
sciences an illuminating and challenging introduction to professionalism.
The book takes a practical approach toward this topic, looking at what
professionalism means, for the individual physician's relationship to his or
her patients, to the medical profession as a whole, and to society at large.
Written by leading scholars and thinkers in the area of professionalism in
medicine, contributors provide a well-rounded analysis of this important
topic. Although the intended audience is primarily physicians, medical
students and residents, the book is a suitable primer for pre-professional
health care students as well.
