7th Annual Conference on
Contemporary Catholic Healthcare Ethics
October 9-10, 2008

University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine

This conference, co-sponsored by
The
Catholic Health Association of the United States,
the
Illinois Catholic Health
Association, and the
Neiswanger
Institute for Bioethics and Health Policy, Loyola University Chicago Stritch
School of Medicine
will bring together a diverse body of scholars
including moral theologians and health care ethicists to discuss the social,
anthropological, and methodological foundations of Catholic health care
ethics, applied conceptual resources to current problems, and confronted
moral challenges on the horizon for Catholic health care providers.
The conference consisted of two components:

Plenary
sessions that explored pressing issues of wide-ranging issues in Catholic
healthcare ethics, and;
-
small group sessions in which participants
discussed creative strategies to address contemporary, clinical challenges in
healthcare.
This program was intended for executive leaders, mission
leaders, pastoral care staff, nurses, members of ethics committees, clinicians,
sponsors, and others in the Catholic health ministry.
Objectives:
After participating in this
conference, persons should be able to:

Discuss the theological, social and legal foundations pertinent to
Catholic healthcare ethics in our contemporary context.

Analyze the Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Healthcare
Services and interpret their meaning for ethical issues arising in
healthcare.

Identify and describe clinical, social and global concerns pertinent to
the delivery of Catholic healthcare in our contemporary context.
