Department of Medicine

The Division of Nephrology offers consultation, evaluation and treatment for patients with acute and chronic kidney diseases; hypertension, especially complex, complicated or secondary forms of the disease; kidney stone disease; disorders of fluid and electrolytes such as sodium, potassium, calcium, phosphorus and magnesium; renal disease during pregnancy; intoxications.

Services include all forms of renal replacement therapy such as:

  • Renal transplantation
  • Hemodialysis
  • Peritoneal dialysis

Special Services

  • Renal biopsy
  • 24-hour ambulatory blood pressure recordings and monitoring
  • Metabolic evaluation of kidney stone patients
  • Care of pregnant patients with renal disease

Major Research

  • Hypertensive kidney disease
  • Diabetic kidney disease
  • Genetic factors in kidney disease
  • Studies on the pathogenesis of hypertension in experimental models
  • Evaluation of new therapies for hypertension
  • Development and evaluation of new dialysis therapies
  • Management of anemia and other complications of chronic kidney disease
