Policy Manual Part II (3rd and 4th Years)
Curriculum Requirements
Years
three and four contain a total of eight quarters (each
12 weeks in length, except the final quarter which is
10 weeks long).
Students
must satisfactorily complete the following graduation
requirements for the M.D. degree during the final two
years of the program:
A.
Required Courses
Four
and one half quarters are dedicated to the following
required core clerkships:
- Medicine
(12 weeks)
- Medicine
Subinternship (8 weeks)
- Obstetrics/Gynecology
(6 weeks)
- Pediatrics
(6 weeks)
- Psychiatry
(6 weeks)
- Neurology
(4 weeks)
B.
Electives
- The
current curriculum requires at least 32 weeks of electives
(40 weeks are available within the curriculum).
- Approval
of electives is given within guidelines whose primary
purpose is to confine the educational program to sites
at which course work can be regulated as to content
and orientation, and from which meaningful evaluation
of student performance can be obtained.
- Complete
policies, regulations and rationale regarding a student's
preparation of his or her elective program, its content,
and the procedures to be adhered to are published
in the Elective Catalogue of the Stritch School of
Medicine.
C.
Medical Humanities Selectives
Students
are required to include in their chosen elective program
certain Medical Humanities selectives as specified
below:
- At
least two part time, or one full time, medical humanities
selective must be included in the student's elective
program.
- Specific
policies governing completion of this requirement
and a listing of available selectives are published
separately in the Elective Catalogue and provided
to students early in the third year.
D.
Other
To
complete the Medical Humanities graduation requirement,
students are required to submit an ethics case report
at the end of the third year, and complete attendance
at two ethics grand rounds during the final two years.

and provided to students early in the third year.
