Academic
Policy Manual Part II (3rd and 4th Years)
Overview
Entering
students at the Stritch School of Medicine of Loyola
University Chicago are presumed to have sufficient intellectual
competence and industry to successfully complete all
course and graduation requirements within four consecutive
academic years. Promotion from year one to year two
and from year two to year three may occur only if all
courses have been passed. All courses must be passed
and all other graduation requirements must be satisfactorily
completed in order for a student to be awarded the M.D.
degree. Failure to comply with and/or remediate within
the guidelines of the Academic Policy Manual will normally
result in actions by the Associate Dean for Student
Affairs to change a student's academic status as authorized
by the Medical Council of the Stritch School of Medicine.
Matriculated
students are assumed to be of high moral character and
are expected to conduct themselves in a professional
manner, maintain high ethical standards and practice
academic honesty in all of their academic endeavors.
It follows, then that Stritch students will also:
- conscientiously
care for patients, their illnesses and all circumstances
which arise in association with their illnesses, with
the highest standards of professional, ethical, and
moral conduct;
- relate
in a proper and professional manner to a patient's
family and next of kin, especially under the always
emotional and often tragic circumstances of the patient's
illness, and;
- maintain
effective professional relationships with peers and
fellow members of the health team in order to assure
delivery of quality medical care.
It is the
purpose of this Academic Policy Manual to inform all
students of:
- general
academic policies and procedures;
- the criteria
which they must meet in order to be promoted and to
be graduated from the Stritch School of Medicine;
- the conditions
under which the Committee on Promotions will require
certain remedial procedures, or may recommend to the
Council of the Stritch School of Medicine that a student's
registration be terminated, and;
- hearing
and appeal procedures.
Students
enrolled at the Stritch School of Medicine must also
adhere to the conduct code of Loyola University Chicago
as published annually in the Loyola University Chicago
Student Handbook.
