Class Schedules and Examinations

A. Class Schedules

An official schedule of class meetings and times is published by the Office of Registration and Records at the start of each semester. The Medical School administration and faculty have carefully weighed the many factors involved in a determination of class schedules. No changes will be made in the schedule of classes except for minor adjustments to meet unforeseen exigencies. These adjustments are made by the Senior Associate Dean upon recommendation of the Associate Dean of Student Affairs and the department chairperson.

B. Examinations

A schedule of examination dates is published by the Office of Registration and Records at the start of each semester. It is the student's responsibility to ascertain the exact time, place and format of all announced exams from the department. Students are obligated to take examinations at the times specified in a general schedule of examinations. Students may be excused from an examination for:

  1. reasons of illness, which must be documented by a note from a physician and/or the Student Health Office at Loyola addressed to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, or;
  2. any other emergency situation in which evidence can be provided to the Associate Dean for Student Affairs to justify absence from a scheduled examination.
Students excused from an examination by the Associate Dean for Student Affairs for an acceptable reason are responsible for making arrangements for the make-up examination with the department concerned prior to the original date of the examination or immediately upon return to class in cases of sudden illness or emergency situations. Unauthorized absence from an examination normally will result in a score of zero for that examination, the consequence of which in almost all cases is course failure. All make-up examination schedules must be approved by the Associate Dean for Student Affairs in advance.
Changes in the examination schedule for individual students, except in cases of illness, emergency or personal tragedy, will not be granted. Changes in the examination schedule which are requested by the great majority of a class may be submitted to the Senior Associate Dean. After consultation with the department chairperson concerned, the Director of Registration and Records, and the Associate Dean for Student Affairs, the Senior Associate Dean will rule on the request and his decision will be final.
