Academic Policy Manual Part I (1st and 2nd Years)
Curriculum Requirements - First Two Years

Each of the first two years of the four year curriculum consists of two semesters of 20 calendar weeks (18 weeks of class). The first semester consists of Gross Anatomy (including Embryology), Histology and Biochemistry. The second semester includes Physiology, Neuroscience, and short required courses in Behavioral Science, Medical Humanities and Emergency Medicine. The third semester covers Microbiology and Immunology, Pathology and Pharmacology. The fourth semester, which is considered a transitional one into clinical training, includes Organ Systems, Physical Diagnosis and Preventive Medicine. Additionally, during the second year students are expected to attend at least two ethics grand rounds.

Students are required to take all courses offered in the basic science curriculum at Stritch and record a grade according to the regular schedule and school calendar.

A student may petition to complete the honors level section of a required basic science course on the basis of previous formal academic experiences in a comparable graduate or professional level course. Petition forms may be obtained in the Office of Registration and Records. No proficiency exams will be offered for the purpose of exempting a student from any graduation requirements.
