The Father Fahey, S.J. Book Award was established by a benefactor in honor of Reverend John M. Fahey, S.J., who retired in 1988 after seventeen years as the Assistant Vice President for University Ministry and student counselor at the Stritch School of Medicine. A freshman student will be chosen to receive this award on the basis of his/her academic and service records prior to enrolling at Stritch and financial need. The recipient will receive a $250 gift certificate for the Matthews Bookstore, located on the Medical Center campus, at the start of each academic year, provided he/she remains enrolled in good standing in the Stritch School of Medicine.

The CIBA-GEIGY corporation awards a complete set of the Netter Atlas volumes to a sophomore student who has performed laudable, extracurricular activity within the community. Examples of such activity would be the organization and staffing of neighborhood health clinics or the development of, and participation in, efforts solicited directly from the sophomore class and final endorsement is made by the Medical School Awards Committee.

All full time faculty will be permitted to vote on a ballot containing the names of the nominees. Basic science faculty may vote only for a basic science candidate and clinical faculty may vote only for a clinical candidate.

The Awards Committee of the Medical School on behalf of the Dean recommends senior student nominees to the President of the University who makes the final selection. The medallion is presented at the Founder's Day ceremonies in the fall and the recipient is acknowledged at his/her graduation ceremony in the spring.
