Academic Policy Manual Part I (1st and 2nd Years)
Related University and School Policies

Loyola University Chicago and the Stritch School of Medicine have approved and published other polices and procedures for which failure to follow could result in a change in a student's academic status, withholding of grades, denial of course registration, request for student to leave an instructional or clinical area, removal of student from the campus, or withdrawal of the normal rights and privileges of a medical student at the Stritch School of Medicine Loyola University Chicago. Below are the most relevant policies.

Academic

  • Follow all policies and procedures contained in the Elective Catalogue. (See Stritch Office of Registration and Records for details.)
  • All students are required to wear Loyola University ID badges on campus and Stritch ID badges during the clinical years while on duty. Students are required to present their ID badges to security officers upon request. (Contact LUMC Department of Environmental Services, Stritch Office of Student Affairs and Student Handbook, page 59 for details.)
  • All tuition, fees and fines must be paid in full and within two weeks of the start of each academic semester. All University and School financial obligations must be satisfied prior to graduation. (Contact Stritch Bursar Office or Stritch Financial Aid Office for additional information.)
  • Students receiving financial aid must provide accurate and complete information when applying for and receiving loans and scholarships. (See Stritch Financial Aid Policy.)
  • All information provided to the Registrar, including transcript, biographical, and personal information must be accurate and kept up to date. (See Stritch Office of Registration and Records for details.)
  • Adhere to all policies regard confidentiality of records and release of student information. (See Student Handbook, pages 47-48.)
  • Seniors eligible for graduation must attend graduation ceremonies unless specifically excused in writing in advance of the event. (Contact Stritch Office of Student Affairs for additional information.)
  • Clinical students are required to participate in LUCI training and follow all pertinent LUCI policies and procedures, particularly with regard to use of Login IDs. (See Foster G. McGaw Hospital Administrative Policy: LUCI.)
  • Clinical students are expected to follow all published policies, procedures and regulations of the hospitals in which they are participating in required clerkships or electives. (Contact Office of Medical Education at each hospital.)

Health/OSHA

  • Enrolled students are required to be immunized against Hepatitis B by the end of the first year of attendance. (Contact LUMC Student Health for details.)
  • Enrolled students are required to submit a Physical Examination form signed by a physician, document receipt of all required immunizations, receive a T.B. test yearly, and have acceptable health insurance in-force during each academic year. (Contact LUMC Student Health for details.)
  • Students must report to Student Health incidence of a Hepatitis or HIV infection and receive confidential counseling from Student Health physician. (Contact LUMC Student Health for details.)
  • Clinical students are required to adhere to the Hospital Scrub Suit policy. (See Foster G. McGaw Hospital Administrative Policy: Scrub Attire, available in Stritch Office of Student Affairs.)
  • All students are required to participate in OSHA/Universal Precautions training and certification and to follow hospital and laboratory policies and procedures. (Contact Stritch Office of Student Affairs for additional information.)
  • Students who are exposed to potential blood borne pathogens are required to report the incident to Loyola's Occupational Health Service. (Contact LUMC Student Health for details.)
  • Students with symptoms or diagnosis of communicable disease should report to LUMC Student Health. (Contact LUMC Student Health for details.)

Student Life/Campus

  • All policies and procedures regarding student conduct listed in the Loyola University Chicago Medical Center Campus Student Handbook. (Contact LUMC Dean of Students Office for a copy.)
  • Obey all published parking regulations and signs and park only in areas designated student parking for that time of day or day of week. (Contact LUMC Parking Office.)
  • Adhere to all Loyola University Chicago policies regarding Racial Discrimination, Abuse and Harassment. (See Student Handbook, pages 61-64.)
  • Adhere to all Loyola University Chicago policies regarding Sexual Harassment. (See Student Handbook, page 64.)
  • Adhere to all provisions of the Loyola University Chicago Medical Center Student Alcohol Service Policy. (See Student Handbook, pages 44-46)
  • Adhere to all provisions of the Loyola University Chicago Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Policy. (See Student Handbook, pages 52-54.)
  • Adhere to all provisions of the Loyola University Chicago policies on Dissent. (See Student Handbook, pages 48-52.)
  • Adhere to all provisions of the Loyola University Chicago policies on Hazing. (See Student Handbook, pages 56-59)
  • All students are expected to follow posted copyright laws when making copies of published material using University photocopy equipment. (Contact LUMC Medical Library for details.)
