Hours of operation -
Please refer to the hours of operation. The CIF follows the University
calendar for holidays. Technical assistance
will not be available during scheduled vacation time, in case of illness or other
emergencies.
Cost Reimbursement -
Investigators are expected to pay for services of the CIF through extramural
funds or internal funds (e.g., departmental R&D). Please refer to the
list of charges. Faculty submitting extramural grants should ensure that sufficient
funds are budgeted. Portal orders or account numbers must be supplied prior to the scheduled
appointment. Work cannot proceed without these numbers.
User consultations -
Investigators are encouraged to consult with the director and staff to address
technical questions related to sample preparation, deadlines for completion of the
work, and user familiarity with the instruments.
Turnaround times -
Turnaround times for samples will vary based on the number of samples, the complexities
of the techniques involved, and the laboratory workload. Generally, samples will
be processed in the order received with an expected turnaround time of 3-10 days.
Investigators should plan their experiments to provide sufficient time to ensure
quality of work and availability of the instruments. "Rush jobs" are discouraged
and will be billed an additional 20% surcharge.
User Training - The sophistication of the instrumentation in the CIF requires
that investigators who expect to use the equipment receive training. Basic training
sessions lasting 1-2 hours will be conveniently scheduled and will be billed at the
hourly laboratory rate. Additional technical assistance will be available as needed
to support use of the instruments.
Receipt of tissues -
All tissues should be delivered to the CIF properly fixed, labeled, and in appropriate
containers. Supplies can be obtained from the CIF. Toxic or infectious materials
must be properly handled to avoid exposure and contamination. The CIF will not become
involved with techniques leading to the collection of tissues (e.g., perfusion of
animals).
Reserving use of the facility -
Investigators should use the research portal accessible through the intranet to reserve time on
specific instruments.
Users failing to show up during reserved
times will be billed for 1 hour use of the instrument unless the appointment is canceled
24-hours prior to the scheduled time.
Charges and Billing -
Investigators should refer to the list of charges for use of the CIF.
Investigators will
receive a monthly statement of charges. This statement must be signed, assigned an account
number and FAXed back to the CIF (X63676) within 2 weeks. Fractions
of hours are rounded to the next hour.
