Loyola's Division of Continuing Medical Education's
Mission Statement

The Division of Continuing Medical Education exists to help physicians improve the quality of health care.  It does this by fostering education programs that expand the knowledge and skills of graduate physicians.  This mission naturally complements the efforts of the Stritch School of Medicine to produce physicians who are lifelong learners.   It serves as the formal arm of the Stritch School of Medicine in its effort to support continuing medical education in surrounding institutions.

These education programs will include, but not be limited to, informational updates in the clinical and basic sciences, technical skills improvement and professional development.  Across the spectrum of CME activities, a variety of teaching/learning methods are used, including large group lectures, small group discussion, case-based problem solving, computer-base activities, and personal skill development in medical procedures and teaching competence.

The target audiences includes Stritch School of Medicine faculty members and alumni; local, regional, and national medical school faculty; medical staff of affiliate hospitals and satellite facilities; as well as practicing physicians locally, regionally and nationally.  Loyola undergraduate and graduate medical students are encouraged to participate in CME activities as well as other health care professionals, including, but not limited to nurses, therapists, social workers, and chaplains.  An annual dental education series directed by the Division of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Dental Medicine, in cooperation with the CME office, is conducted for dentists and oral surgeons in the greater Chicagoland area.

To achieve its goal, the Division of Continuing Medical education coordinates program development and provides staff support for the conduct of continuing medical education programs.  It monitors programs to insure that they are free of commercial bias and assists course directors with the marketing of programs.  It serves as the ultimate guarantor of the integrity of CME credit by collecting and accurately recording evidence of program participation in all sponsored programs.
